Westjet Checked Baggage & Restrictions, (Travel Advisory) Increased security measures in place for travel to the U.S. West jet advises guests to avoid travelling with any carry-on luggage to reduce security screening wait times. Westjet Flight Deals
Due to the new, increased security measures imposed by the Canadian and U.S. transportation authorities, flights to and from the United States continue to be affected by significant delays and in some cases, cancellations.
In addition, some domestic flights have also been adversely affected due to late arriving aircraft from the U.S. WestJet is advising guests travelling to the U.S. to visit the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority website at www.catsa-acsta.gc.ca for a complete and up to date list of items permitted as carry-on.
Travel between Canada & U.S (includes Hawaii) The following policy applies to tickets issued on or after December 2, 2009 for travel on or after January 19, 2010. # If your baggage exceeds your complimentary allowance (due to number, size and/or weight), you need to purchase an additional checked baggage allowance. # If your baggage exceeds any of the following limits: * 32kg (70lb) in weight * 292cm (115in) in size (length + width + height, wheels & handles included) * 203cm (80in) in length.
* Carry-on baggage – We will accept a maximum of two pieces of carry-on baggage with the following dimensions: One item at 21.5 in x 9 in x 15.5 in (55 cm x 23 cm x 40 cm), and one item at 16.5 in x 6 in x 13 in (43 cm x 16 cm x 33 cm).
* Checked baggage – Each guest may check two pieces of baggage, with a maximum size of 62" total combined dimensions (Length + Width + Height) and a maximum weight of 50 lbs per piece. Please note: oversized and overweight items will be charged a $50 fee.
* Excess baggage – up to two excess bags will be accepted on a space-available basis, however they are subject to a $75 excess baggage fee. Baggage fees are combinable, that is an extra item that is also overweight will be charged $75 (excess) + $50 (overweight).
* Pack strategically. We suggest you put all of your important 'must-have' items into the two standard baggage allowance pieces, as we can’t guarantee extra bags will be accepted.
* Sporting equipment such as skis and snowboards are considered to be part of the checked baggage allowance of two pieces.
